ONS Supports the ICPNC in Actualizing the National Peace Match Event.

The Office of National Security (ONS) has on Saturday, 29th April 2023, given its unflinching support to the leadership of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC) to organize and actualize the National Peace Match event simultaneously held across Sierra Leone.

The event, which is a first of its kind ever held in Sierra Leone, was not only colourful, it was well attended by state functionaries, and officials from all works of life, including the leadership of all political parties. The event was also observed in all sixteen districts across Sierra Leone. Officers of the ONS at both national, Provincial and District levels provided effective coordination in supporting this golden initiative by the ICPNC.

The event took the form of a Match pass from designated areas of the respective environments and terminated at points where the relevant stakeholders made statements of commitment to supporting the attainment of peace and security before, during and during the country’s upcoming general elections. The Deputy National Security Coordinator, ONS, Dr. Ahmed A. Sannoh, who spoke on behalf of the NSCoord, expressed the ONS’ commitment in providing the enabling environment where peace and security will thrive at all times. He encouraged the public to support peace initiatives as this was the only option which the country for the actualization of all development aspirations. The Inspector General of Police also admonished the public to reject violence and support peace efforts. Thanking the ICPNC for the laudable venture, the IGP further pledged to SLP’s commitment in enforcing the law irrespective of status, colour or affiliation. The program ended peacefully across Sierra Leone.
