The Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone Donates Motor Bikes and other Operational Items to the Office of National Security

Freetown- 4th June 2025

The donation ceremony of the 15 Lifan Motor Bikes was held on 4th June 2026, at the Office of National Security (ONS) on OAU Drive, Tower Hills, Freetown.

In his opening curtsies, the Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr. Ahmed Sannoh, welcomed His Excellency the Chinese Ambassador and his Defense Attaché to the ONS, describing the kind gesture as a step in the right direction in augmenting the work of the ONS, and in strengthening the bilateral ties between the two institutions. He reminded the gathering that the donation of 15 motorbikes was followed by another donation of a 275 KVA generator, 5 tablets, 3 printers, and 30 folding chairs, which the Ambassador made to the ONS in December 2025.

“This augments our electricity support and facilitates our workforce. So we want to extend our profound thanks and appreciation to His Excellency the Chinese Ambassador for that generosity”, the DNS Coord said.

In presenting the Motor Bikes to the National Security Coordinator (NS Coord) , the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Zhao Yong, expressed his gratitude and happiness to be at the ONS to do the donation on behalf of his Embassy. He commended the ONS on its efforts to enhance national security, as Sierra Leone is now ranked 2nd in West Africa and 5th in Africa in terms of sub-regional security. Ambassador Zhao Yong said the donation was in fulfillment of the promise he made to the NS Coord of his Embassy’s support to the ONS.

“This is not the end of our cooperation. The Embassy will continue to support the ONS in enhancing national security”, the Chinese Ambassador said.

In making his statement, the NS Coordinator, Mr. Abdulai Caulker, thanked the Chinese Ambassador for his kind gesture and expressed his delight at receiving 15 Motorbikes from his Embassy.

Speaking about his first encounter with Ambassador Zhao Yong Mr. Caulker reflected on the bilateral discussion on security coordination and the partnership between the ONS and the Chinese Embassy in Sierra Leone. He further reflected on the discussion around the challenges the ONS face in coordinating the security sector, including mobility. A few months after that discussion, the NS Coord said the Ambassador had contacted the office about the availability of the items they had donated. “These Motor Bikes you are seeing here today are going to be sent to the provinces; each district is going to have a motorbike, and we are going to ensure that they are used judiciously in enhancing national security”, Mr. Caulker said.

The signing of the bilateral agreement between the two institutions and the handover of the keys to the 15 Motor Bikes culminated the ceremony.
